When we decided to add a new state to our "Discover the States" puzzle series we knew it had to be Florida. This state brings so many images to mind. From sugar white sands along the Emerald Coast to golden sunsets in Key West; it's shells, football, springbreak, scuba diving, and long quiet walks at dawn. Florida is known for family vacations on sunny beaches and, hopefully, minimal sunburns. Settle in with a good book and fresh-off-the-coast seafood. It is one of our very favorite places and we hope this new puzzle brings to mind fond memories, both old and new.

Space adventures, sports cars, candy beaches and Southern charm: are all in abundance in Alabama. Fifty Flags fly high in this state flag flourish by artist Ligie Teodosiu. Each banner brings with it a signature story-from Alabama's crimson Cross of St. Andrew to Wyoming's blue backdrop with bison silhouette. Several of the flags feature stars, including Alaska's Big Dipper constellation and Arizona's copper centerpiece. The Holy City, Chuckton, Port City, Charlie O, Palmetto City, The Big Sweet Grass Basket: Charleston, South Carolina certainly isn't lacking in nicknames! Nor is warm hospitality, great seafood or friendly conversation in short supply, as any visitor to the exquisite city will confirm. From the stellar French Quarter views from Waterfront Park to the manicured grounds of Middleton Place, this is a city of abundant beauty and superb architecture. It's rich territory, too, for history buffs, as Fort Sumter-where the opening volleys of the Civil War were fired-lies just across the harbor. Dozens of dogs are yours to enjoy in this juigsaw jewel from artist Lili Chin. They're among the 202 distinct breeds of Canis familiaris recognized by the American Kennel Club and range from the so-small Chihuahua (as tiney as 3.8 inches) to the massive Mstiff (one weighed in at 343 pounds). Scientists disagree on how long the dog has been domesticated. With some saying around 10,000 years and others claiming closer to 30,000. They're also at odds on the process, with one canine camp believing early human hunter-gatherers tamed them and opponenets saying wolves domesticated themselves. What all can agree on is that these "best friends" bring great joy to their human counterparts. Happy puzzling!

The South, also affectionately referred to as "Dixie," is the group of states just below the Mason-Dixon line with a unique cultural and historical heritage.  it's a place where tea is sweet, porches are wide, and conversations are long.
